It's amazing how quickly Maddie's vocabulary and comprehension is increasing:
  • Yesterday evening as soon as she heard the oven buzzer go off she started yelling, "Eat time!  Eat time!"
  • She says "yeah" in response to questions or when she is in agreement with a statement.
  • On the way to preschool today, I listened as Maddie talked about a book that Eric has been reading to her at night titled Bark, George.
  • Maddie ate some pretzels at preschool today.  She thought they looked like octopuses.  :)  I told her they are called pretzels and this evening she was able tell Eric what they were.
We think she is so super smart!

This afternoon at the park Maddie climbed the steps to the top of the big slide and surprised us by sliding down all by herself!  It was so fun to see the big smile on her face when she reached the bottom and realized she had done it without any help.  We laughed and watched as she repeatedly climbed the steps to slide down again and again.  As she climbed she would count, although not necessarily starting with the number one.  "Ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, twelve, thirteen. . . ."  We'll eventually get past that pesky number.  :)

After her little legs tired of climbing the mountainous stairs, Maddie wanted to swing.  The baby swings were wet from the rain, so I tried to get her to swing on my lap, but no, she wanted to be Miss Independent.  We sat her on one of the big swings, told her to hang on tight, and gave her a little push.  She loved it!  I think she probably stayed on the swing for five to ten minutes before I was able to get her off.  I'm so proud of our big girl!

Tiny Tidbit:  Maddie LOVES the Clean Up song.  She sings it while she cleans, in the car, and she even sang it tonight while she was eating.  Silly girl.

This is officially the beginning of my new blog, Our Sweet Life.  All posts with an earlier date are from More Than Just a Beautiful Mess.  I decided to start a new blog for two reasons, privacy issues and a fresh start.  The purpose of this blog is to keep track of the day to day happenings that we will all too soon forget. With a 21 month old and another one on the way, we're sure to have ups and downs, but this will be the perfect place to record all of those little things that make this life so sweet!

13 Weeks

I'm going to attempt to revive my blog, in order to keep a journal of this pregnancy.  Hopefully I can stick with it!  :)

On February 26th I found out that I was pregnant.  I dressed Maddie in her big sister shirt (as seen in a previous post) and that is how Eric learned of the pregnancy.  Just like when I told him about being pregnant with Maddie, he asked me if this was "for real."  We decided to keep the pregnancy a secret until my birthday when we would announce it to our family.

March 8th was my birthday.  After going out to eat, we invited everyone over to our house for cake.  Eric said he wanted to take a group picture so everyone crowded around Maddie and me.  Eric took one photo, claimed my eyes were closed, and then secretly switched the camera to video mode.  Right before "taking the next picture," he said, "We're having another baby."  Unfortunately we didn't quite get the response we anticipated.  Apparently no one believed Eric.

On April 16th Eric and I went for my first doctor's appointment.  We got to see the baby wiggling around and hear the heartbeat which was around 180 BPM.  I thought the baby looked like a little gummy bear.  :)  When we were getting ready to leave, my doctor regretfully told me that the ultrasound machine was out of paper and the pictures of our little gummy bear were lost.  He said he owed me pictures at my next appointment.  I thought I was okay with that until I got home and realized that I would not have a tangible reminder of my pregnancy for another four weeks.  So, I called the next day and set up an appointment for the day after that.  Thankfully this time Dr. F simply did an abdominal ultrasound and I got to happily leave with a picture of Baby T #2 (see post below).

I think that pretty much catches you up to speed, so on with the weekly update.

Size of baby:  Baby T weighs nearly an ounce and is 3 inches long, about the size of a Nutter Butter.

Total weight gain/loss:  +2.5 pounds

Maternity clothes:  My regular jeans still fit.  I did wear a pair of maternity pants yesterday and although they were comfortable, I don't think I'm quite ready for them.

Gender:  We don't know yet and I don't have an intuition.  With that said, based on how I'm feeling (just like I did with Maddie) and the heartbeat of the baby at our first appointment (same as Maddie's), I'd guess girl.

Movement:  Too early.

Sleep:  Pretty good, minus the bizarre dreams.

What I miss:  Nothing.

Cravings:  No real cravings yet, although I have been eating a lot pizza.

How I'm feeling:  If you ask Eric he'd tell you I'm more tired than normal, but other than that I'm feeling good. Just like with Maddie, I haven't really experienced any of the uncomfortable side effects of pregnancy.

Highlight of the past week:  Telling all of you about Baby T #2!
