Even though Eric and I have been married for a year and a half, we STILL haven't gotten all of our stuff moved out of our parents' houses. This summer when we move into our new home, I plan to finally get all of our belongings under one roof. One thing that is still at my parents' house is my wedding dress. As soon as the wedding was over, it was zipped up in its bag and hasn't seen the light of day since then. I haven't even had it cleaned! That's awful, I know. . . .
Anyway, I've been thinking about what I should do with my dress, aside from getting it cleaned, of course. I hate for it to just take up closet space, but I don't think I can bear to part with it either. What have you done with your wedding dress? Or, what do you plan to do with it?
at most bridal stores you can get it preserved where they clean it and seal it up in a box that has a window on top so you can still see it but it's not exposed to the elements. That's what we did with mine...well my mom did so I'm not sure how much it cost. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to decide what to do with mine, also. I'm considering selling it to a consignment shop, or even selling it on eBay. Savanna sold hers on eBay and someone paid a little more than half of what she paid for it.
ReplyDeleteSo...when you decide, let me know your rationale, and it might help me decide as well! Hope you're having a great weekend!
I think eventually I will see about having the shortened version of my dress dyed so that I can wear it out for cocktail parties and such.
ReplyDeleteI've read lots of ideas of how to reuse a wedding dress: pillows, napkins, curtains, tableclothes, a Christmas tree skirt, etc. I've also seen a suggestion of matting your wedding photo with fabric from your dress.
Another idea I read is to wait until it's baby time, then have a christening gown made out of the fabric; I think this idea is particularly sweet.
If seems like if you're willing to cut up your dress, there are lots of ways to repurpose the fabric. Let me know what you decide!
Umm..the idea of cutting up my wedding dress is freaking me out! But then, seriously. What else am I gonna do with it? So...yeah. I guess I am no help. Let me know what you decide!
ReplyDeleteMine is preserved in a box like Dana described. And it takes up lots of closet space. But...I can't bear to get rid of it, either.
