Appointments and Blizzards

Well my grandfather ended up passing away on Sunday night.  He hadn't been awake since Friday morning, so it was almost a relief when he finally let go.  Unbeknownst to him he was soon to become a great-grandfather to not just one new baby, but two.  Turns out one of my cousins is pregnant with a little boy and is due at the end of September.

In other news, Eric's appointment went well last week.  He's now allowed to slowly start putting weight on his right leg.  Hopefully he'll be free of crutches in the next week or two.  We're supposed to go to a Rangers game on May 8th with our friends Brett and Allison.  It sure would be miserable to have to hobble around the ballpark on crutches!

Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment.  He said my weight gain looks great, even though it kind of freaks me out.  I also learned that my stress, since it's not physical, has no effect on the baby.  Thank goodness!  Before Dr. F had me get on the exam table to measure my belly and listen to the heartbeat, he asked if I had been having any contractions.  At 23 weeks?  Uh, no.  Then he had me get on the exam table and as he started to measure he stopped and told me to feel how hard my belly was.  Apparently I was having a contraction right then and didn't even know it!  He said it's not uncommon to start having contractions this early and I'd begin recognizing them more and more as my uterus gets larger.

Yesterday I also typed my official resignation letter.  I really want to be home to raise my baby, but the thought of going from two incomes down to one scares me.  Despite my fears, Eric is insistent that I stay home.  I am so lucky to have a husband that wants the best for me and our baby!  Now I can officially begin the countdown to not only the end of school year, but also the end of teaching--32 teaching days!!!

One more thing, for the next week Dairy Queen is having a deal where you buy one blizzard and get the second one for $0.25. This is not good for a pregnant girl!

Oh yeah, and thank you for the advice about the baby registry.  We're working on getting one together and boy are there a bunch of baby products out there!  If you think of any more suggestions, please let me know.

  1. I am so sorry for the loss of your grandfather. It does seem like when it rains, it pours. But you know that you are always right in the middle of Gods love and goodness, no matter what your circumstance. I will be praying for you, friend.

I am so relieved to know that all this stress lately has no effect on the baby. How encouraging!!!

And yay for you for typing that resignation letter! You are going to LOVE NOT teaching. Unless, of course, you love teaching...but I have a feeling you don't ;) Resigning from teaching was the BEST career move I've ever made. I plan on staying home with my baby, too. So yay for an awesome husband who is willing to make that happen! Also, I highly recommend reading Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover" now that you are going to shift from two incomes to one. His whole financial premise is based on budgeting off one income. We do that in our house and it works amazingly!!! It takes away a lot of pressure from us women-folk who may not be bringing in as much money anymore. Seriously look into it :)

  2. I'm sorry about your grandfather! I didn't know that he ended up passing away until I read this! If ya'll need anything, let us know!

I wish I could stay home, but those DANG student loans keep me from doing it...oh well! I know I am teaching for a purpose!

  3. What an eventful life you've led these past few weeks! So sorry for the valley moments, but what great mountain moments too! Staying home is what we would like for me to do as well when we have kids. I'm glad y'all will be able to work that out. And, like Cassandra said, read Total Money Makeover. It's a great book.

We'll be going to CO in late July/early August. It is still going to be a very last-minute decision. We are prepared for whatever the outcome is. We've had people send support already, so that has been encouraging for us.

Praying for your family for healing. Praying for Eric's continued healing. Praying for your sweet baby. Praying for you. :)

  4. I am so sorry for your loss Michelle. Y'all are definitely going through some hard times. I will definitely be praying for you and your family. You have such an awesome attitude though and I think that you are inspirational in how you are dealing with everything.

That's exciting about your resignation letter. I love staying home with my kiddos. Especially in the beginning when they are newborn. I think you will love it too. You do have an awesome hubby!

Oh, and the DQ deal isn't good for a fat girl who needs to diet either!!!!! Although, I'm not a big ice cream lover, its hard to pass up such a great deal!

Those are the braxton hicks ... mine never hurt either. it's quite weird to feel your stomach tightening up with your hand ... and otherwise can't feel it!

Our plan was for me to go back part-time ... BUT it just so worked out that my job wasn't really available. ANd I couldn't leave him! he fills every second of my day ... and i love it!
