Couponing

Have you seen Extreme Couponing on TLC?  Holy moly!  I've only seen it once, but who knew you could MAKE money at the grocery store?!  Of course I do think it's kind of odd that a woman who has no children is stockpiling baby food and diapers, but I'm sure she didn't spend a penny (well, maybe one penny) on it.

My budget would LOVE for me to be an extreme couponer, but unfortunately I find even basic couponing overwhelming.  Do I really need this product?  Is this actually a better deal than what I normally buy?  Is this coupon worth the ink and paper I'll have to use to print it?

How about you, are you a couponer?  Do you go to the extreme or just clip/print something if it catches your eye?

  1. I use coupons but I don't clip them. I tend to buy mostly generic products & those don't have coupons unless they are in-store coupons. I haven't watched the show but I would love to save that kind of moolah!!! Apparently they save that much money bc those stores do double couponing & we don't have stores that do that around here. I would love to sit down & look online and at the paper & see if it would benefit me. We shall see!! :)

  2. I LOVE watching that show. I would love to be able to do that, but they say they spend 30-35 hours a week clipping coupons and i don't have that kind of time and i don't have the space to store that much stuff. i have thought about clipping for items such as laundry detergent and diapers and then going to the nearest grocery store that doubles or triples to pick up them in bulk, but for ALL grocery items I just don't think I could do it.

  3. I tried couponing for a few months, but nowhere near as extreme as the people on TV. I saved a little, but I also ended up buying stuff that I wouldn't have normally bought. One thing I've heard, though, is that if you write to companies and tell them how much you like they're products, they will send you coupons. That seems like a pretty easy way to save a little bit of money.

  4. I've tried cutting coupons before...even took the Amarillo Sunday newspapers for a year in pharmacy school to do it...my problem is that I usually forget to take the coupon with me to the store and actually use it. I have also heard that people who are extreme couponers subscribe to some sort of coupon website so they get multiple coupons for each product...the problem is that they have to subscribe to the site to receive the coupons. It's too much work for me...also seems like a waste when you consider how many products they stockpile. Food items, for one thing, do not store well for long periods of time.
Another idea with coupons, and one that a former professor's family does is coupon and stockpile then have a garage sale and sell things for cheap, so they're actually making money and getting rid of the stuff!

  5. I've given up on couponing for the most part. I can only find coupons for things I don't need. Maybe I need to write to companies I like...Not that I'd go to the trouble, but Sarah, I'm surprised you can resell those items.
